Take small breaks from everyday life with a therapy blanket and promote mental health

Studies show that we Germans work more than most people in the world. We work overtime more often, find it hard to say no to tasks, and also retire later and later. We also compare and measure ourselves very often with colleagues.

All these and many other factors lead to us being exposed to ever-increasing performance pressure and growing stress.

Mental health concerns everyone

The effects on mental health from massive and continuous stress are well known. Too much stress causes negative effects on blood pressure, our gastrointestinal tract, and our circulatory system. It can also lead to a higher risk of heart disease and strokes. Many people think that only those already diagnosed with a mental illness need to address their health.

The truth is that each of us should deal with our thoughts and feelings every day. Healthy mental health is a prerequisite for productivity, energy, and well-being. It strengthens self-confidence and allows us to work more effectively.

But much more importantly: A healthy psyche helps us relax faster in everyday life and allows us to enjoy our lives better.

How can we strengthen our mental health?

To avoid chronic stress or burnout, it is important to take time for yourself more often. "Switching off" from work should happen much more often than just during a vacation or on weekends.

Taking a break from work and related tasks more often helps to start projects again creatively and with new ideas.

Several studies from the USA show that taking a break from work, for example through a vacation or an extended weekend, has positive effects on our physical and mental health.

Has it been a while since you last took a vacation?

Here are four important and scientifically proven tips that help reduce your own stress.

  1. Organization - Write to-do lists for your week. Important here: Set realistic goals and schedule specific times for breaks and personal activities!
  2. Let your soul dangle - The best remedy against too much stress is to take a break and spend time with your partner, family, or friends!
  3. Take time for yourself - Put aside your smartphone or laptop in the evening, watch less TV, and instead take a long walk or read a good book on the sofa.
  4. Adequate sleep - Restless nights, wild dreams, and frequent waking. Too much stress has a strong impact on our sleep because the subconscious processes the events of the day.

How can therapy blankets reduce stress?

The deep pressure exerted by the weight of the therapy blanket has a relaxing effect on the joints, muscles, and tendons. One comes to rest internally and physically. Body awareness normalizes. In technical terms, this state is also called self-organization.

Weighted blankets promote the release of the hormone serotonin and simultaneously reduce cortisol levels (the so-called stress hormone). The pressure exerted by the weight signals the body a feeling of safety and security. The result is a euphoric feeling of complete relaxation of the body and nervous system.

The body also releases the sleep hormone melatonin, allowing you to fall asleep peacefully, deeper, and faster, or to sit calmly and relaxed on the couch or at the workplace. The body can regenerate especially well during the night, and the next day you feel fit, productive, and in a better mood.
