How long-term effects of Covid-19 affect the psyche and therapy blankets can be a small help

It is already known that large parts of the population have increasingly suffered from stress and sleep problems due to the Corona pandemic. The constant flood of news with infection numbers and new regulations was a burden for many people over the last 1.5 years, which has not occurred in this extreme form before. In addition to personal restrictions and challenges, there was also the hopelessness about when and if the pandemic would ever end. Furthermore, Covid-19 patients often complain about long-lasting symptoms, which are now also confirmed by a British study.

The speculation about the long-term effects of Covid-19

For a long time, it was speculated whether symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, or concentration difficulties were related to a previous Covid illness. Not only people with moderate to severe courses reported various complaints, but also those who only had a mild illness. The most well-known symptom that persisted after recovery in some patients was the impaired sense of taste and smell.

Since long-term effects of a Covid illness are a new field within research, it is still unclear to many researchers why some people/patients suffer from late effects while others do not. It affects both older and young, healthy people, which complicates the search for the causes of the long-term effects.

British study brings new insights into long-term effects of Covid-19

A promising study by the National Institute for Health Research in Oxford, England, includes the analysis of 236,379 digital health records of Covid-19 survivors. The researchers found that people who contracted Covid had a 44 percent higher risk of anxiety disorders or mood swings than after the flu.

One third of the recorded patients, most of whom were treated in the USA, suffered from a neurological or psychiatric disorder within six months after their Covid-19 diagnosis. Most suffered from anxiety disorders at 17 percent and mood disorders at 14 percent. About 5 percent of the analyzed people had problems with insomnia. The causes remain unclear to scientists. Preventing and treating consequential damage also requires further research.

Doctors often assume that the symptoms after Covid-19 illness are related to an autoimmune reaction, as is common after infections with other viruses. However, these usually occur in predictable patterns, which is not the case with Covid-19.

Non-Covid patients also suffer

In addition to the long-term effects on Covid patients, which should not be underestimated, there are also many people who struggle with various complaints due to the pandemic. Initial studies also provide insights into the impacts, such as in Bavaria, where the evaluation of 350,000 insured persons' data showed that in 2020, sick leave due to psychological illnesses was at its highest. The increasing worries and fears due to the Corona pandemic do not pass people by unnoticed. This especially often affects sleep.

Therapy blankets for long-term effects and complaints

Those suffering from the long-term effects of a Covid illness should not only urgently seek medical advice but also be especially careful with themselves. If you are struggling with anxiety, mood swings, and insomnia, slowing down is important. Give your body enough time to recover. A therapy blanket can be a small helper here, as the deep pressure generated when placed on the body has a calming effect. The weighted blanket will help you relax and fall asleep. It is a natural aid that works without medication and can support you in your treatment and recovery.

A therapy blanket can be used whenever you feel like it. After a stressful day, but also with long-term anxiety and sleep problems, it is a comfort that many people have already benefited from. The weighted blanket gives you a sense of security and safety, which has been shaken for some during the pandemic. Using the therapy blanket will help you sleep more peacefully and improve your overall well-being.
