SOS Children's Villages: Use therapy blankets for children sustainably

We often receive inquiries about what happens to the returned blankets. And no, the blankets are neither thrown away nor resold. We have thought about it and find it too bad to end the short life of a returned blanket. Therefore, blankets in good and cleaned condition are put back into circulation – in the form of donations to associations, organizations, and facilities that can integrate the weighted blankets into their work with children and adults with disabilities or illnesses. 

We are very pleased to be able to donate some weighted blankets to the SOS Children's Village Lausitz in Cottbus. Especially for children who do not grow up in a healthy family environment, a weighted blanket cannot replace the loving embrace of parents, but it stimulates their own body perception and the perception of stimuli.

With this donation in kind to SOS-Kinderdorf e.V., we want to contribute to all children who did not grow up in ideal family circumstances, did not experience enough closeness from their parents, or were exposed to many different kinds of challenges in life. Especially children and adolescents need affection and affirmation from their family. A deficit in touch can strongly influence development and lead to behavioral disorders.

At SOS Children's Village, such children can find support. There they get the chance to relearn how to cope with their situation, build self-confidence, and compensate for the lack of affection. With the help of professionals such as educators and psychologists, a wonderful environment is created for growing up.

The feeling of safety and security is received from the immediate surroundings in the children's village – our weighted blankets can further enhance this feeling physically by conveying the sensation of being "here and now" through the weight of the blankets. Placing the blankets calms and helps the children relax. Touch and affection replace experiences that will help the children in the future to lead a harmonious life in harmony with their fellow human beings. 

We hope to be able to donate more therapy blankets to SOS Children's Village facilities in the near future.
