How you can overcome fear and panic attacks
Where does fear come from?
Emerging fear before or during certain situations is a natural reaction of the body and anything but worrisome. On the contrary – reacting with fear originally means preparing primarily for flight or fight and thus securing one's own survival and integrity.
In such moments, the body is on high alert because something has been recognized as a threat. Nowadays, this can be as trivial as fear of an exam. The consequence is increased concentration and attention.
When is fear and panic too much?
Anxiety and panic attacks can become regular patterns and particularly restrict those affected in everyday life. The fear is then often disproportionate to the perceived danger.
Usually, the fear of fear or panic arises, situations are consciously avoided, or the fear spreads to every matter and thus influences many areas of life.
Weighted blanket for coping with attacks
Admittedly, it is not always easy to overcome fears and make panic attacks disappear completely. The goal here is not to cure anxiety disorders but rather to accept and first acknowledge them. Where does the fear come from? What helps me in such situations?
The focus is on dealing with sudden fear or attacks by becoming aware of what might help you best get through the state. Relaxation techniques or meditations can be helpful here. In addition to depression, inner restlessness, racing thoughts, and nausea, fear of falling asleep can also occur as a side effect.
Weighted blankets or so-called gravity blankets can be particularly effective here. Especially during panic attacks, physical symptoms can be very pronounced and the perception of one's own body and environment can be limited. A weighted blanket applies a pleasant pressure on the body, which lowers cortisol levels (stress hormone) and promotes relaxation. The body becomes more noticeable due to the deep pressure – it helps to consciously perceive the here and now and naturally counteract anxiety and panic attacks.
Note: Being afraid or having a panic attack does not necessarily mean you have an anxiety disorder, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, or social phobia. However, it is always advisable for those affected by anxiety and panic attacks to consult a doctor and discuss possible treatment options.
