Alexandra Keyling
Naturopath for Psychotherapy for Parents & Children

Many children have trouble falling asleep, the parents lie restlessly beside them, waiting for their well-deserved evening off. Both can really use support for their nervous system, the parents and the child.

How did you come across the therapy blanket concept?

I have heard about therapy blankets from various sources from time to time. From colleagues but also from patients. Some parents of children in therapy with me have often asked me about the blankets. I couldn't really say anything about the effect or the areas of application. That was the reason why I started to deal with the blankets. On the internet, I then landed on Therapiedecken.de. Now I can not only answer questions about therapy blankets but also recommend them again and again.

How do you personally experience using a weighted blanket?

I have been using the blanket for several weeks now and find it very comfortable. The blanket wraps around you more and fits perfectly. It gives me a feeling of security and protection. This feeling helps me come back fully to myself after a tiring day. In the first days, I only used the blanket in the evening on the sofa. Now I use it all night and don't want to miss it.

In which medical fields do you think the use of therapy blankets makes sense? Where do you already successfully use therapy blankets?

In cases of symptoms associated with inner restlessness, nervousness, or irritability (of course excluding organic causes), I can well imagine using it. For diagnoses such as anxiety disorders, panic disorder, sleep disorders, dissociative disorders, or PTSD, I see therapy blankets as a benefit. However, you really have to look individually. What exactly does the patient need? So a therapy blanket does not always support anxiety disorders. Rather, you really have to find out together with the patient what feels good. Of course, you can also ask yourself that alone.
I will continue to recommend the therapy blanket again and again. I work with parents and children, so I can really imagine using it. Many children have trouble falling asleep, the parents lie restlessly beside them, waiting for their well-deserved evening off. Both can really use support for their nervous system, the parents and the child.

Your personal conclusion

My personal conclusion is that the blanket can be a great option for many. A way to relax more easily, to find calm, to feel safe and secure. As self-help or as support for therapy. I will definitely continue to enjoy using the blanket.
