Caroline Helming's experience with therapy blankets

"I am a big fan of the concept. Whether private or professional, I can recommend them without reservation."
How did you come across the Therapy Blankets concept?
I already knew the concept from my work as an occupational therapist treating children with various diagnoses (developmental delay, ADHD, autism). “Heavier blankets” and “sandbags” are part of the basic equipment in every good occupational therapy practice. We occupational therapists mainly use them to promote deep perception.
I am now a sleep consultant for babies and toddlers and know how important it is for the little ones to feel safe and held. This way they can let go and relax, and only relaxed children can sleep well. However, since I had no experience with the use of Therapy Blankets in this area yet, but find the theory behind it absolutely convincing, I definitely wanted to try the blankets.
How do you perceive using a weighted blanket?
I actually bought the Therapy blanket for my son. He sleeps well but is always very restless motorically. However, I must admit that I actually use the blanket myself at every opportunity. Of course, it does not correspond to my weight and size, but I am still enthusiastic and will definitely get one for myself as well. The feeling under the blanket is very pleasant – almost as if being hugged. A nice and calming feeling.
In which medical fields do you think the use of Therapy Blankets makes sense?
I clearly see the blankets for sleep and anxiety disorders of all ages (from about one year). I think they have a great, positive impact in these areas. Furthermore, I see them in the pediatric field with children who, for example, have difficulty sensing themselves or calming down.
Your conclusion from a personal or medical perspective
I am a big fan of the concept. Whether private or professional, I can recommend them without reservation. A relaxed and secure sleep is a blessing for everyone. And who doesn't like to feel hugged and safe?
