Corinna Schwab's experience with therapy blankets

“The use of therapy blankets in sports is sensible because sleep is one of the most important components of regeneration. It is just as important as hard training; without proper regeneration, training would not be effective and thus no performance could be achieved.”
How did you come across the therapy blankets concept?
As a professional athlete, you are involved day by day in getting the maximum out of your body. I always ask myself: what can I do to become even faster? I critically examine the various pillars that are the main areas to be able to perform at the end of the day. An extremely large and important area is regeneration and thus sleep. Accordingly, I questioned how I could improve my sleep quality. After researching on the internet, I came across therapy blankets. I was immediately enthusiastic about the idea and convinced that, for example, the weighted blanket would improve my sleep by a few percent and ultimately also my performance. The many positive reviews supported my thoughts and led to the order of a therapy blanket.
How do you perceive using a weighted blanket?
Personally, I immediately had a very pleasant feeling and without much adjustment time, I slept through the second night with the blanket. Through the gentle pressure of the blanket, there is a feeling of relaxation and letting go of all everyday worries, stress, and thoughts that trouble your mind. The light feeling of being hugged supports this extremely and leads to a feeling of security and comfort.
For me personally, my bed has become a place of calm and energy through the weighted blanket, shielding all external stress and allowing me to be completely with myself for a moment. After a long and restful night, compared to a normal blanket, my well-being is better and I feel more balanced. As a result, I immediately have more energy and joy of life available and can thus start the day with maximum energy.
In your opinion, is the use of therapy blankets in sports sensible?
Yes, definitely the use of therapy blankets in sports makes sense, as sleep is one of the most important components of regeneration. It is just as important as hard training; without proper regeneration, training would not be effective and thus no performance could be achieved.
There are many different factors that cause sleep to be insufficient and of poor quality. One is definitely the nervous system. In my sprint area, the sympathetic nervous system is extremely pushed by high-speed running, so an important task is to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and thus relax the nervous system again. For me, the weighted blanket is the tool for this not only at night but also in the afternoon during power naps.
Especially with extremely high training loads or competitions, the stress level is extremely high. The distributed weight of the blanket and the resulting pressure lower the cortisol level, which leads to the batteries being fully recharged and no drop in performance occurring.
This also happens when, on the one hand, you do not get enough sleep, and on the other hand, the sleep quality is poor. The weighted blanket helps to get into deep sleep much faster and also stay longer in it. This way, you recover better from a hard training day and can start the next training day with full energy and performance, achieving better results.
In sports, besides the body, the mind also plays a crucial role. The weighted blanket enables me to be fully focused and better control my concentration.
Where do you use therapy blankets privately and professionally?
Besides the weighted blanket, I use the pillow made of Swiss pine wood. The forest-like scent additionally creates a calming effect. The combination of both is definitely worth its weight in gold for me. I use these two not only in bed at night but also in the afternoon during power naps.
And where do you still see potential/need?
I am completely happy.
Your personal conclusion
Therapy blankets are not only the optimal choice for athletes but for everyone! This is an absolute recommendation from me, coming from the heart. For me, the products from therapy blankets have become indispensable and essential. This is definitely my superpower for restful sleep and thus for my performance.
Since I track my data and my sleep daily, I have the improvements in black and white. What was definitely noticeable was that my heart rate has decreased. Since I had problems with it in recent months, I am very happy to have found the tool to keep my heart rate stable and low despite extreme training loads.
